Ponte Vedra Palm Tree

This week our challenge was to come up with a shot showing the rule of 3rds.  This HDR image was taken this afternoon off the back of our house in Ponte Vedra.  It was forcast to rain all day…turned out to be a pretty awesome day.

Drooling Oak Trees at Christ Church in St Simons

This past weekend I went down to St Simons Island GA for the GA/Fl football game.  Here are some pictures from the nearby Christ Church.  These trees are absolutely amazing and are one of my favorite things about visiting the Georgia coast.  This is what I like about living in the South…if someone wondered why.

The Fillmore Charlotte North Carolina

When I think of the Fillmore, I think of the Grateful Dead playing at San Francisco’s Filmore West or New York’s Fillmore East, not Charlotte North Carolina.  Well, Charlotte  now has a Fillmore and we went to see the Trey Anastasio Band play there Friday night.  Here is a shot of the entrance.

And here is a shot from inside the venue from my iPhone…excuse the quality

It really is a cool venue and quite small.  Parking was easy and there is a beer garden next door where you can play corn hole pre-game.  Looking forward to going back soon.

Charlotte Future Statue

We took a quick trip to Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend to see a concert at the Fillmore.  After lunch we took a stroll through town and found this shot.  This is one of the four statues at the intersection of Trade and Tryon in Uptown Charlotte, and it represents “Future”.

Photos from the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica

This is a shot of the swimming pool at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall in Montego Bay Jamaica.  The hotel is behind me and just past the pool is the beach and Caribbean Sea.  Since I didn’t have my tripod with me, this was a lesson in shooting handheld HDR.  I think it turned out…thanks to quick exposures.

Photos of the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall in Montego Bay Jamaica #1

After settling back in after our anniversary trip to Jamaica, I wanted to show you some of the pictures I got while there.  We stayed at the all-inclusive Ritz Carlton at Rose Hall in Montego Bay.  It is a stunning property, not huge, but visually impactful.  <– is that not a word?  Let’s use it today anyway.  Here is a shot of on of the cabanas they have set up on the beach.  Each chair has a little blue flag on it, and when you raise the flag someone will come by and take your order.  Fortunately, we were there at a very slow time so they were on the case if your fruity drink started to melt.  Most of the pictures in this series are HDR in case you couldn’t tell… I’m pretty pleased with the way they turned out, especially since I didn’t have a tripod with me.  Let me know what you think in the comments.  I’ve only been shooting HDR for about a month so I can use all the critiquing I can get.  Thanks!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Triangle

This week, Triangle was the subject for the shutterboo weekly photo challenge on Flickr.  While in Montego Bay Jamaica, I took this shot of the hammock where I spent several hours getting my peace and quiet on.  The triangle doesn’t jump out at you, but it’s nestled into the fabric of life, just live everything else in Jamaica.  We had an awesome trip celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.  We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton at Rose Hall which is pretty fabulous.  Of course the people are amazing and always happy to ensure your stay is perfect.  I’m sure during the summer season, this hammock is a hopping place and a hard spot to secure, but in September, it’s the most peaceful and relaxing spot in the joint.

Be sure and check back, I’ll be posting shots from the trip as I get them processed.
